This is March. This is Women’s History Month. A time to honor the women who came before us, the ones who defied expectations, redefined power, disrupted the status quo, went against the standard and made choices that changed history.
“The women who shaped history weren’t afraid to break the mold. Neither should you.”
Where would we be if they hadn’t?
What if they had followed the blueprint laid out for them by someone else? What if they had played it safe, stayed in their lane, and ignored the call to do something different?
We would not be here.
The truth is, the world has never been changed by people who stayed inside the lines. And neither will your life.
But some people will tell you otherwise. They’ll say to follow the formula, to stick to what’s safe, to stop testing and learning, to stop moving and pivoting. Play it safe.
Absolutely not!
Growth requires action. If you aren’t evolving, you’re staying stuck. We were never meant to fit into somebody else’s box. Neither are you.
A Choice That Changed Everything
Two years ago, a choice changed everything: a decision to move differently, think bigger, and step fully into purpose. The moment the decision was made, the path shifted.
And yet, the question always comes up:
“Why did you leave corporate?”
It’s as if people can’t grasp that success isn’t just a title or a paycheck, it’s alignment with purpose. I’ve been transparent about my decision.
You don’t have to stay in a space simply because it’s familiar. Or do what everyone else is doing if you want to do something differently. You decide.
The last conversation with my grandmother before she passed in March 2023 changed everything. Her words still ring loud:
“You don’t get more time. You can always get another title, but you don’t get more time.”
That was it. That was the reminder that mattered.
Little did I know that would be our last conversation. And out of the most painful moment came a profound lesson.
If a decision isn’t made with intention, regret will fill the space where boldness could have lived. Choosing differently isn’t easy, but staying stuck is harder.
You don’t need permission to exercise your free will and create the life you want. You choose.
What Are You Choosing?
Are you choosing to shrink, or are you choosing to step forward?
Are you choosing to stay comfortable, or are you choosing to grow?
Are you still choosing to stay in a space that no longer fits, or are you choosing to fully own your path, whatever that looks like?
Because whether you realize it or not, you are always choosing something. No choice is also a choice.
And here’s the best part, you get to change your mind as many times as you need to as you gather more clarity. You don’t have to be locked in. You are never stuck unless you choose to be.
The real power isn’t in staying or leaving. It’s in knowing that whatever move you make, it’s yours to make.
As Women’s History Month comes to a close, let this be your reminder: you are the legacy someone else will one day celebrate.
You don’t have to ask for permission.
You don’t need a perfect plan.
You just need the courage to choose.
Because the most powerful thing a person can do is live fully in her truth, and choose herself, again and again.
So what will you choose next?
Whatever it is, make sure it’s yours.
